(Butler, PA) Colt Sprankle posted a 1-stroke victory over a two-time medalist this fall and placed first Thursday as the Butler County Community College men’s golf team won a tri-match at Lake Arthur Golf Club near Butler and moved to 7-1-1.

Sprankle earned the medalist honor for the first time at BC3 with a 6-over 78.

BC3 shot a 327 to defeat the Community College of Allegheny County, which had a 332, and Westmoreland County Community College, which shot a 339.

CCAC’s Kayden Lyons, who recorded the lowest scores in tri-matches among the squads Sept. 11 and Sept. 14, placed second Thursday with a 79.

The Pioneers’ Carter Blystone shot an 80 and tied for third with CCAC’s Conner Jacobsen. Blystone has placed in the top three in his past three tri-matches.

Westmoreland’s Gunnar Shoop was fifth with an 81 and teammate Noah Dubyak sixth with an 83. BC3’s Gannon Brown was seventh with an 84; and the Pioneers’ Maddox Shaffer had an 85 and tied for eighth with Westmoreland’s Shaun Kovac.

The lowest four individual scores from each squad are counted to determine a team total.

The remaining top four scores for each team were posted by Logan Rudolph, 86, and Henry Simcox, 87, for CCAC; and by Johnny Lovre, 80, for Westmoreland.

BC3’s Brett Bartholow finished tied for 10th with an 86, his lowest score of the fall by 7 strokes. The Pioneers’ Johnnie Mikos added a 95.

Sprankle is a graduate of Knoch High School; Blystone and Brown, of Butler; Shaffer, of Armstrong; Bartholow, of Connellsville; and Mikos, of Cardinal Mooney, Youngstown.

Leah McClellan, a Butler High graduate, shot her lowest score of the season with a 117 to defeat Westmoreland’s Rachel Ayers, who had a 126, among women competing individually.

The Pioneers’ fall golf season concludes with the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference championship tournament. BC3’s spring season features regional play, regional tournaments and possible national championship appearances where golfers compete for All-American status.
