(McKeesport, PA) All-American middle hitter Josie Russo had 18 kills and a career-high 15 digs, and setter Anora Robare had at least 30 assists for the second time in three matches as the seventh-ranked Butler County Community College volleyball team Thursday swept Penn State Greater Allegheny to move to 9-0 for a second consecutive season.
Dakota Weldon added 10 kills and fellow outside hitter Molly Bissell a season-high nine for the Pioneers in their 25-11, 25-12, 25-20 victory, which represented their eighth sweep of 2025.
Robare had 34 assists five days after recording a career-high 37 against Lorain County Community College, Elyria, Ohio.
Sarah Lucas and Bissell had eight digs and Robare and Maeggie Wysocki seven for BC3. Lucas, who added a season-high five assists, and Wysocki are defensive specialists.
Opposite hitter Emmy Fisher had four service aces, bringing to 10 her number in the Pioneers’ past two matches.
BC3 is ranked No. 7 among 86 National Junior College Athletic Association Division III programs for two consecutive weeks. The program has been in the Top 15 in Division III in 29 of 33 polls dating to Oct. 4, 2021. BC3 opened the 2024 season at 22-0.
Russo is ranked third in Division III with 1.38 blocks per set, fourth with a .418 hitting percentage and 14th with 3.63 kills per set. Robare is ninth with 7.71 assists per set.
Russo is a graduate of Freeport Area High School; Robare and Bissell, Slippery Rock; Weldon, Laurel; Lucas, Butler; Fisher, Seneca Valley; and Wysocki, Apollo Ridge.
The Pioneers visit Penn State Fayette at 7 p.m. Monday.
Fans are invited to attend a free tailgate party at 5 p.m. Wednesday in BC3’s Field House before the Pioneers face the Community College of Allegheny County at 6 p.m. The tailgate party will include pizza, cookies, soft drinks, a gift and door prizes.
